Big disappointment
By C. David Bridges
I do not believe that much of this novel was written by Wilbur Smith. It just isn't his style. There were long sections dealing with financial matters that sounded like a Harvard lecture. I felt they talked down to the reader. For this author, the sex was uncharacteristically graphic. I also found the two female characters unbelievable (Nastiya and her incredibly immature mid-twenties sister Zhenia). Their dialogue was childish and immature. The only believable character was the arch-villain, Congo. I have read all of Wilbur Smith's novels, and this was a big disappointment.

He has become my favorite fictional author
By Bill M.
I have been held hostage with interest in all of Will Smith Novels. He has become my favorite fictional author. Having said that, , Predator and Golden Lion did not come close to the literary quality of interest we can associate with a Will Smith Novel. I found both books readable but ho-hum and predicable. I have all of his books in my library and enjoy re-reading some of his old novels more than his last two books., I suspect his joint efforts with other authors influenced the quality.

How many times can the main character fight the same guy and survive a million different things that should kill him. The early series that Wilbur Smith wrote were so good. He set a high standard and these last few just aren't up to it. Still and ok read.
