I absolutely loved it.

Reading a screenplay gives you an inside view into the entire character. It fills in the blanks. While some may feel it leaves nothing to the imagination, I find the opposite true. It enhances the imagination, creating vivid imagery in the mind. This screenplay was fabulous. I'm looking forward to many more from Mr. Anderson. Bravo!

NOT ILLUSTRATED

This is NOT an "illustrated" screenplay. It's merely the film's script with a handful of black and white screen grabs from the film. No "illustrations" as seen in some of the other books about Wes's films. IF you are happy with reading the screenplay then this is fine, but if you are hoping for a wonderfully illustrated book, this will be a major disappointment.

The Grand Budapest lost for best screenplay today, and, in my eyes, that is a grave mistake. I don't like long, serious affairs, so I'll just say this: This is the first screenplay for a film that I've ever bought; it is elegant and beautiful, and a pleasure to behold.

Necessary and sufficient

This is a better book than E. Landau's classic Foundations of Analysis in many ways. It has several insightful expository chapters that precede the rigorous systematic part. The integers are actually formalized (Landau only introduces negative numbers with the reals). And Cauchy sequences are used to model the irrational numbers instead of Dedekind cuts. Abstract algebraic structures (hemigroup, commutative group, field, ordered field) are defined and used to avoid duplicating theorems and proofs for the different types of numbers. Also Landau only defines integral powers whereas Thurston defines both rational and real powers.

Thanks to Dover for publishing great books like this at such a low price.

About the Author
Bradley R. Schiller has over four decades of experience teaching introductory economics at American University, the University of California (Berkeley and Santa Cruz), the University of Maryland, and the University of Nevada (Reno). He has given guest lectures at more than 300 colleges ranging from Fresno, California, to Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Schiller’s unique contribution to teaching is his ability to relate basic principles to current socioeconomic problems, institutions, and public policy decisions. This perspective is evident throughout Essentials of Economics. Dr. Schiller derives this policy focus from his extensive experience as a Washington consultant. He has been a consultant to most major federal agencies, many congressional committees, and political candidates. In addition, he has evaluated scores of government programs and helped design others. His studies of income inequality, poverty, discrimination, training programs, tax reform, pensions, welfare, Social Security, and lifetime wage patterns have appeared in both professional journals and popular media. Dr. Schiller is also a frequent commentator on economic policy for television, radio, and newspapers. Dr. Schiller received his PhD from Harvard and his BA degree, with great distinction, from the University of California (Berkeley). When not teaching, writing, or consulting, Professor Schiller is typically on a tennis court, schussing down a ski slope, or enjoying the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe.

Karen Gebhardt is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Colorado State University (CSU). Dr. Gebhardt has a passion for teaching economics. She regularly instructs large introductory courses in macro and microeconomics, small honors sections of these core principles courses, and upper division courses in Public Finance, Microeconomics, and International Trade, as well as a graduate course in teaching methods. She is an early adopter of technology in the classroom and advocates strongly for it because she sees the difference it makes in student engagement and learning. Dr. Gebhardt has taught online consistently since 2005 and coordinates the online program within the Department of Economics at CSU. She also supervises and mentors the department’s graduate teaching assistants and adjunct instructors. Dr. Gebhardt was the recipient of the Water Pik Excellence in Education Award in 2006 and was awarded the CSU Best Teacher Award in 2015. Dr. Gebhardt’s research interests, publications, and presentations involve the economics of human–wildlife interaction, economics education, and the economics of gender in the United States economy. Before joining CSU, she worked as an Economist at the United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service/Wildlife Services/National Wildlife Research Center conducting research on the interactions of humans and wildlife, such as the economic effects of vampire bat-transmitted rabies in Mexico; the potential economic damage from the introduction of invasive species to the Islands of Hawaii; bioeconomic modeling of the impacts of wildlife-transmitted disease; and others. In her free time, Dr. Gebhardt enjoys learning about new teaching methods that integrate technology, as well as rock climbing and camping in the Colorado Rockies and beyond.

Would have been a five if not for the extra ...

Would have been a five if not for the extra website that comes with this book which requires a code that is not hard printed into the book. Without that code it is another $80 dollars to get one. Buying the book used meant the code was not there, and the class I was taking, of course, required the website. I may fail my class because of this.

Simple & easy to understand.

Other than being mandatory for the basic economics course that every college student is required to take in their first year, it's not a bad book. Well put together. Good coverage of the individual topics. And I can't blame the book or writers for which questions the professor picks out of the book to have you answer. So I say the book itself is a good one.

A fur trader from 1878 to 1904, Schultz married a Pikuni (Blackfoot) woman, became a member of the tribe, and was given the Blackfoot name Apikuni. With the disappearance of the buffalo it was as difficult for Schultz to adjust to the new way of life as it was for the other Blackfeet. He took to the mountains and explored the eastern slope of the Rockies, hunting game and guiding other hunters and explorers, including George Bird Grinnell, the Baring brothers, and Ralph Pulitzer. He named mountains, glaciers, and lakes; he was the first to identify the mountain goat; and through his and Grinnell’s efforts the northern portion of the American Rockies was set apart as Glacier National Park.

Excellent storyteller

J. W. Schultz was a storyteller extraordinaire, not an historian. If you want the true flavor of the times and people portrayed in this book, without being a stickler for correct dates and perhaps even names, then this book is for you.

"Red Like Me..."

While this book has its place, read The Ways of My Grandmothers by Beverly Hungry Wolf if you want to know what it was like to BE Indian. Being from Montana I'm very familiar with Schultz and his wife; and their involvement in the loss and recovery of medicine bundles that went to Bernadotte in Sweden. Schultz was 88 when he died in 1947 so his wonderful story telling has its place. But, in general, I'm leery of books that make it appear that Indian culture is a pre-20th century phenomena when it is alive and well NOW. I would wish that if you enjoy this book that you would also take a moment to read contemporary authors on what it is like on the Red Road today. Native America, today, is alive and well. There are problems in any culture, but the gifts are many. Hope to see you on the pow-wow trail!
